ANOTHER MOTO3 POLE POSITION FOR MARTIN AT LE MANS

Jorge Martin has given Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 the third pole position of the season, in what was not a simple qualifying for the Spaniard today at Le Mans. Martin’s team mate Fabio di Giannantonio will line up on the fifth row of the grid after making a couple of mistakes in the final stages of the session.

Martin was the absolute protagonist of today’s Moto3 QP at Le Mans, not just for his final result but also for the early drama in the session: the young Spaniard, in fact, fell off his Honda NSF250RW machine in the very early moments of qualifying – at turn 3 – and was quite down the order for the majority of the 45-minute session. Jorge then crossed the line with one second left before the chequered flag was deployed: he got another chance for a quick-lap attempt, which he turned into his third pole of the season out of five Grand Prix.

Di Giannantonio, on the other hand, was in sixth place before the rain arrived; then, once he returned to the track, he was unable to make the same step forward as his rivals, due to some traffic on track and a couple of small mistakes on his fast lap. Fabio will be forced to a comeback in the race from row 5, but he is known for being really good at it.

The fifth race of the Moto3 World Championship will get underway tomorrow at 11:00 local time (GMT +2).

1st – JORGE MARTIN #88

“If I can be honest, this session has been a… disaster! Everything that could happen did happen, so even more so I can be happy with my pole position! I crashed out at the very beginning and I got really nervous, because I knew how important every lap was going to be, given that it was our first and only real session on the dry. I was struggling, but in the end I was able to get the confidence back and set some good lap-times. It’s good to have found the feeling with these conditions in such a short time, so I hope tomorrow we’ll be able to do a great race: from pole everything looks a lot different!”

15th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO

“It wasn’t an easy qualifying for me, especially due to the rain that halted our progression halfway through the session. I tried to push as hard as I could in the second half but I found some traffic first and then, on my quick lap, I made a couple of mistakes which cost me four tenths of a second. It’s a pity, because we could have been much closer to the front of the grid, but we have to make a difference in the race!”
