MARTIN TOPS TIMESHEETS IN QATAR AS DIGGIA KEEPS IMPROVING

Friday’s sole Moto3 free practice session was successfully contested at the Losail International Circuit today: with the threat of rain turning into a false alarm, Team Del Conca Gresini’s Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio were able to take their NCS250RW machines to the track and, with some good work together, they managed to get some very positive results despite the strong winds blowing across the 5.4km Qatari venue.

It was an extremely solid performance for the young Spanish rider Jorge Martin, who was able to top the timesheets with the so-far quickest Moto3 lap-time of the weekend, a 2’06.817s, almost two tenths faster than his nearest rivals.

Di Giannantonio, on the other hand, was able to significantly better his feeling with the Honda machine #21 with some setup improvements to the front end of the bike. “Diggia” eventually logged a 2’07.976s lap-time which resulted in a 12th position at the end of the day.

The first qualifying of the year will get underway tomorrow at 18:00 local time (GMT +3).

JORGE MARTIN #88

“It’s been a fantastic day, which started with some great feeling with used tyres. Fabio and I helped each other during the session, but I was able to lap quick even when on my own. The time I set with fresh hard tyres was good, but I was starting to experience some problems already from the second lap so we still have to make a decision about whether to go for the medium or hard compound for the race.”

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“I’m quite happy with today because I managed to log a 2’08.0 with used tyres, which is really encouraging for me. Even my lap with fresh tyres was great, but it was rightfully deleted as I exceeded the track limits. No harm done, though: we still lack something in corner entry, but we’re definitely in the right direction.”
