POLE AND LAP RECORD FOR MARTIN AT MONTMELO

Jorge Martin has scored his fifth position of the season today at Ciruit de Catalunya, the venue hosting the seventh Grand Prix of the 2017 Moto3 World Championship. The 19-year-old Spanish rider of Team Del Conca Gresini has made the difference in front of his home crowd by logging a record lap in 1’53.368secs, which turned out to be almost seven tenths of a second faster than the one set by the rider in second place.

Fabio Di Giannantonio was less lucky than his team mate as, after setting the third fastest time at the beginning of the session, he crashed unhurt at turn 5. The young Italian was able to make it back to the track – courtesy of the incredible work done by his crew to fix his Honda NSF250RW #21 in no time – to finish eighth and only two tenths away from second place.

The seventh race of the 2017 Moto3 World Championship season will get underway tomorrow morning at 11am local time (GMT +2), when both Martin and Di Giannantonio will launch themselves from the grid to battle for top honours.

1st – JORGE MARTIN #88

“I was feeling really good already this morning and my times were very competitive, so I’m happy I could turn this potential into my fifth pole of the season. As happy as I am about the qualifying result, however, I know that we still have to work on our race pace to make amends for the race at Mugello. The goal is to finally get that win and I feel we’ll have a chance to do so, because we worked well and the pace is there. I enjoy racing on my own and that’s important ahead of tomorrow, so we’ll see how it goes.

8th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“The crash has cost us a bit of time. Because I didn’t know the track very well, I pushed a bit too much and ended up crashing at turn 5. The team did an amazing job in fixing my bike in no time and, although my feeling wasn’t perfect when I got back on track, I was still able to put together a couple of good laps. We still have room for improvement, so if we do a good job in the warm up we’ll be up there battling for honours.”
