UNLUCKY QUALIFYING FOR SALAČ, 13TH IN ARGENTINA. ALCOBA ROUNDS OUT TOP15
Qualifying – #ArgentinaGP The Moto2 qualifying session at Termas de Río Hondo turned out to be an unfortunate one for Filip Salač who earlier in the day had gained direct access to Q2 courtesy of the second-quickest time in the combined FP classification. He took to the track for qualifying ready to log a competitive lap-time, but a crash at turn nine ruined his pole position dreams. Salač, however, did not give up he jumped back on his Kalex #12, made it back to the pits and after an outstanding work by the team he managed to get back on track and set the 13th quickest time.
Jeremy Alcoba had a competitive Q1 and with a lap time of 1’43.681secs he managed to make it through to Q2 but then struggled to get up to speed. He will start tomorrow’s race from 15th place on the grid ready for a comeback race as much as his teammate, who will also line up on the fifth row of the starting grid. The start of the race is scheduled at 12:15 local time (GMT -3).
13th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1:43.130)
“It was a difficult day, which started with the morning rain and then continued with a mistake during the opening qualifying lap, which led to a crash. I managed to make it back to the pits with the bike and the team did an incredible job: in two minutes they fixed my bike and allowed me to get back on track, they were amazing! When I saw my bike flying through the air I never thought I would have been able to return to the track. Obviously the bike was not perfect and therefore I wasn’t able to log a very competitive lap time but it’s still better to start from 13th position rather than 18th – we know we can be competitive in tomorrow’s race. I will do my very best!”
15th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1:43.262)
“Today we saved the day at the very last minute as we gained access to Q2, but I still have to learn how to be quick from Friday already. Due to the wet track encountered this morning we didn’t have the chance to improve and we therefore had to go through Q1. I’m happy with the feeling I had in qualifying; I took to the track with the right frame of mind, I found a good feeling and managed to improve lap after lap. In Q2 however we missed something. I’m still happy with the work done by the team; our pace is not too bad so if we can get a good start we can battle with the best!”
