RODRIGO MAKES IT HAPPEN: FRONT ROW FOR THE ARGENTINE, ALCOBA SEVENTH
Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 is on the front row for the Grand Prix of Andalucia, round thee of the 2020 Moto3 World Championship. Gabriel Rodrigo will line-up on the third spot of the grid courtesy of a 1’45.706secs lap-time logged at the very last quick-lap attempt around the scorching-hot asphalt of the Jerez Circuit Angel Nieto. Jeremy Alcoba will open up row three after lapping three tenths of a second slower than his teammate.
Rodrigo did well in the usual last-minute lottery for the quick lap by getting up in the right group of riders which always work well for getting a good reference ahead on track. The young Argentine made a difference in the third split and kept his composure aboard his Honda NSF250RW machine #2, and he is now looking forward to exploiting his race-pace potential in the 22-lap race getting underway at 11:00 local time (GMT +2).
An encouraging performance saw Jeremy Alcoba clinching a well deserved seventh place, with the young Spanish rider running as high as fourth in the latest stages of qualifying two. This result proves the great ability of the former CEV Moto3 champion on the single lap and bodes well for his dreams of gold come Sunday – despite this track not being among his favourites. Alcoba can be confident ahead of the third encounter of 2020 also due to the stunning third place achieved in the morning’s free practice.
3rd – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’45.706)
“Finally a qualifying in line with our speed. We have always been quick, even last weekend, but we were unable to capitalise. To be starting so much ahead will allow us to avoid useless battles that would cost us some time. The bike works even better compared to some days ago, so I expect a group race but I’m convinced we can be among the protagonists.”
7th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’46.057)
“I’m very happy with the bike as it works well in all conditions and temperatures. In FP3 we did very well while in qualifying in the first outing with Gabri things went well, but then with the heat the tyre lost a bit of performance and had a little issue with the front-end. In the second outing I was on my own without slipstream, so I even thought I did worse than seventh.”
