SECOND ROW START FOR SALAČ AFTER JAPANESE GP Q2

Qualifying – #JapaneseGP Today’s real protagonist at Motegi has been the rain, which started already during the second Free Practice and meant that no rider could improve their lap-times in wet conditions. Salač was therefore seeded directly to Q2 as the FP1 times were the one that counted – and the standard bearer of Gresini Racing Moto2 was fifth in that session.

Q1 was also held under wet conditions, and while Alessandro Zaccone managed to log his quickest time in 2’07.296secs, it still was not enough for him to make it into Q2. The rider #61 will start tomorrow’s race from 23rd place on the grid, for a race that will surely be affected by the weather.

Torrential rain and extreme conditions led to a very early stoppage of Q2. The long wait before going back to the track did not discourage Filip Salač, who was sixth at the end despite the difficult conditions.

6th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (2’06.123)

“Qualifying was really tough. There was a lot of water on the track, already from FP2. The conditions worsened further in Q2, which led to a halt of the session. After a long wait we went back on track and the track was really slippery, but we still managed to do a good job anyway. I was struggling to find the grip at the rear-end of the bike in my first outing and I thought I wouldn’t have made it, but things went the right way! Now we need to think about tomorrow’s race!”

23rd – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (2’07.296)

“Qualifying was OK: I went slightly wide during my best lap and without that I would have been a few tenths faster, but I don’t think it would have changed too much. Now we wait to see what the weather will be like tomorrow: we’ll make some more adjustments to the bike as we still have some margin.”
