MARTIN OUT OF #GERMANGP WITH FRACTURED ANKLE

After dominating the morning session at the Sachsenring, Team Del Conca Gresini’s Jorge Martin had a nasty highside at turn 1 during the second free practice of the German GP – the ninth event of the 2017 Moto3 World Championship. The young Spaniard was thrown over the handlebars of his Honda NSF250RW and landed badly on his right leg. Martin was immediately taken to the medical centre, where after an x-ray scan he was diagnosed with a fracture in his right ankle (right proximal fibula).

Martin was later transported to the Klinikum Chemnitz for further examination and for another radiography, which will give a clearer picture of the injury.

The team and Martin’s family are evaluating the best plan for Jorge’s return to Spain, where he will undergo a surgical operation to stabilise the fracture. More updates will follow.

On the other side of the Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3’s pit-box, Fabio Di Giannantonio had an overall encouraging day as he was 13th with a personal quickest lap-time of 1’28.429. ‘Diggia’ will be the only standard bearer of the team on track from tomorrow until the end of the #GermanGP.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO

“It was a very good day for me with two positive sessions. We were fast both this morning and in the afternoon, especially if we consider the track conditions, which were far from perfect. We did also well on the longer run with hard tyres on in the afternoon. We’re still a bit far from the top but we should be able to get closer to the front guys tomorrow. Obviously I wish a speedy recovering to Jorge, who was very unlucky today! Hopefully the break will serve him well!”
