DEL CONCA GRESINI MOTO3 DOMINATES OPENING DAY AT MISANO

Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 has enjoyed a superb start to the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini Grand Prix by placing both riders at the top of the timesheets at the end of today’s two free practice sessions at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

After an encouraging performance in mixed track conditions this morning, Fabio Di Giannantonio logged an impressive 1’42.620secs lap time – which was seven thousandths of a second faster than the circuit record lap and only four tenths of a second from the best lap (1’42.209). The young Italian rider knows there is still room for improvement and that a good qualifying – his Achille’s heel – will be crucial for a good result in front of his home fans.

Jorge Martin chose to sit out the FP1 session to avoid unnecessary risks; in the afternoon, however, the Spaniard impressed with great pace and a lap-time that was only 0.071secs slower than his teammate’s. With the condition of his leg slowly but steadily improving, the goal for Jorge will be to find a bit more feeling under braking in order to ready to attack the 23-lap race on Sunday.

1st – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“Finally a great performance in free practice! I have to say I was a bit surprised with today’s performance because this track has always been a bit of a challenging one for me. Today we set some great lap-times, though, and I was feeling comfortable on the bike straight from the get go. Lap-times came by riding on my own and I know we can improve some more. I need to be a bit cleverer in qualifying, especially in the last outings, but if we can keep this speed I think we can qualify well even without slipstreams.”

2nd – JORGE MARTIN #88

“It was a positive day: first of all, the leg is less painful and although I still cannot use the rear brake the way I’d like to, I’m happy. We still to improve something under braking and we’re not as competitive as we were during the test we did at the end of May. With no laps under my belt I set a 1’43.5 at my very first attempt: the idea is to continue in this direction and make sure we have all it takes to win on Sunday.”
