THE KIND OF FRIDAYS WE LIKE
A top five result for both Marquez brothers, with Marc topping the timesheets in both sessions while setting the new outright lap record (it last happened to him at Austin back in 2021). This sentence alone would be enough to describe Team Gresini MotoGP’s Friday at Aragón.
As often happens, though, nothing is as perfect as it looks: Alex experienced a few issues at the start of the afternoon session and that cost him valuable track time – but he still saved the day with a great time attack. Both riders are seeded directly to Q2, with plenty of work ahead to stay near the front of the field this weekend.
1st – MARC MARQUEZ #93 (1’45.801s)
“It’s only Friday, so we must keep both feet on the ground as I’m sure it’ll be a lot tighter tomorrow. The goal is still to make it on the front row, we’ve been very comfortable on the bike since Austria and I feel good at this track. Today’s conditions were also perfect for me so I repeat: it’s only Friday.”
5th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (1’46.406s)
“The direct seed to Q2 saved the day. We had a technical problem at the start of the session, which prevented me for trying all we had planned to try. The feeling is not ideal on a track that has been recently resurfaced, and I’d have needed more time. That’s why I’m happy with fifth place, but it’s clear that there’s still plenty of work to be done.”
